This is the Thank You video that Kenny made for Jimi,

it came across really grainy but it is a very touching video.

We passed out actual DVDs to some of the Dr's and Nurses

at UCLA. We hope they enjoyed them!!

New Years Resolutions!

My new years resolution is to update my blog A LOT more than I have been!! Christmas was great, new years was great, but I'm glad it's over. So far this year isn't going so well, my nephew Bo got shot in the eye with an air soft bee bee and is in a lot of pain, from what I last heard it looks like he will regain site and be fine, but for now he is bandaged and not able to move around a whole lot. The weird thing is that he and his friends ALWAYS wear goggles, it was at night and he took them off just for a second to wipe the fog out, what are the chances. Then my dad was in a truck accident, he was in Wyoming and the wind was blowing about 75mph and picked up his trailer and truck and blew it across the other lane and landed on it's side. Luckily he is fine, he is so stubborn he wouldn't get checked but I am assured that he is ok! It's definitely not a call you want to get in the middle of the night though. A friend of ours daughter was in a dirt bike accident and broke her arm, chipped her other wrist and knocked her out, poor girl. But my theory is that we are going to get it all over with in January and the rest of the year will be better.

We spent the weekend in LA. Tabi and Tim and their girls were sealed in the Temple and it was a great day! We went to UCLA to visit the Dr's and nurses that helped Jimi, it was amazing. We had quiet a few in tears. Kenny made an amazing thank you video that we passed out and we ended up staying an extra day so that Jimi could see one of her very favorite nurses, Jenny. We are still very thankful for all they did for her while she was there. On our way home we stopped at a Veterans cemetery and showed the kids some of the memorials, it was neat. It got Jim and I ready to visit Arlington at the end of the month. We are going to Virginia to my best friends Carrie's wedding and are so excited. We are planning some site seeing and going to the DC Temple. And I am so excited to see Carrie and her soon to be husband and her family and the wedding is going to be amazing and I am so honored to be IN it. We have talked about it since we were in 6th grade and it blows us away that after all this time we are still close enough friends that I am going to be her bridesmaid.

Everything else is going great, kids are back to school. Report cards come out today, so we'll see if things are still great tomorrow. My other friend Karrie called me this morning giving me a hard time about updating my blog, so she lit a fire under my butt, so everyone thank her ''THANK YOU KARRIE BUNTING!!" enjoy

Christmas, Politics, and Blessings!!!

Here it is December and I haven't posted for a really long time. Busy time of year I guess. The tree is up, and the money is gone... Jim is working like crazy and isn't pleased about it. Verizon made Saturdays optional and Sundays mandatory, he is thinking about filing a grievance with the union, it just doesn't seem right to us.

Well, I usually don't talk politics but... I am so a fan of Mitt Romney!!! (no dad, not JUST because he is Mormon!) I really like his views and I did have mixed feelings about having him in the White house, but more and more I think he is the man for the job!! Check out http://www.mittromney.com/ to see all about him. It drives me nuts to hear and see how many people out there really believe we aren't Christians, WE ARE!!! The picture above is in the visitor center of many (maybe all) of the Temples that anyone is welcome to go see. So if anyone is thinking of NOT voting for Romney because he is Mormon check out the REAL Mormon web site and learn about it for yourself. www.lds.org and listen to Romney's latest speech on faith, he's not trying to convert anyone, but he does have the morals and values that MANY of our former presidents never had! I am a Mormon, I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, and our Savior for all mankind. But, being a Mormon means I have ALL the facts that many other Christian religions don't have. We don't believe they are bad people, anyone who loves Christ, and serves others and teaches out of the Bible are on the right track, and we follow the teachings of the Holy Bible, so "thou shalt not judge" Ok, there is my political speech.
Now this brings me to a little more on Christmas. As you all know, our scare with Jimi this year has put a whole new perspective on things for our family. Financially it was and still is, hard to overcome, so we sat the kids down and explained to them that Christmas wouldn't be big this year, and they said "Presents aren't what Christmas is about, it's Jesus Birth, and remembering Him and all of our blessings" (yes it brought a tear to my eye) They finally understand!! And a little corny for some of you, but for me remembering Christ's birth makes me remember my own kids births, and the great joy I had, and that Heavenly Father was sure to have too, along with Joseph and Mary. But this year it also reminds me of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, took upon him our sins so that we could be saved, and I can't imagine what Father in Heaven felt watching his son suffer the way he did. We know the pain of watching our child suffer, but God could have taken it all away, but didn't so that we could be redeemed for our sins. I prayed that I could take Jimi's pain away and I would have. And that touches me that the love that our Father in Heaven has for each of us is so much greater than we could EVER imagine!! To all of you reading, I love you. And I pray that you all remember the true meaning of Christmas! Merry Christmas to all!!!

Jimi's day of fame in the Kern Valley Sun

It has a few pictures with it too, pretty neat. They got some things wrong but you get the jist of it.
Mom and Dad... I will mail you a newspaper so you have it in print. Love you!!

Jimi Hurley stages miraculous and unexplained recovery
Valerie Cassity-Special to the Sun

Jimi Hurley has always been a normal, perfectly healthy kid. She attends South Fork Elementary School, where she has never missed a day due to illness, and she also enjoys cheerleading and other activities. This year, Jimi and her family have survived a nightmare and been touched by a miracle.
It was Labor Day weekend, and like most kids, 10-year-old Jimi was enjoying the three-day holiday; carefree and playing outside soaking up the last of the summer weather, until Sunday, Sept. 2 when she became ill and started vomiting. Her mother, Danyll, thought Jimi might have gotten a bug and become a little dehydrated, so she took her in to Kern Valley Hospital on Monday, and in doing so saved the life of her daughter.
After running some tests on Jimi, Dr. Martin found her white blood cell was at 53,000, when the normal level is 10,000. The doctor suspected the cause was a ruptured appendix, and had Jimi quickly transported to Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. When her parents arrived in Bakersfield, the medical staff were still were running tests and getting Jimi set up for surgery. They had done a contrast MRI, and found her appendix gone, so they stressed the urgency of the situation.
The medical staff was having problems because Jimi’s blood wasn’t clotting, and they were afraid she would bleed out on the table. After Jimi’s parents gave permission for a plasma transplant, the doctor began surgery at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, assuring her parents that it would be a quick forty-minute surgery. 'I was a panicked mother; my husband and I were upset and worried so I asked the nurse, who had kids of her own, if she would come in and let us know what was happening,' remembered Danyll, 'She came back a little later to tell us that the surgeons had run into problems, and our daughter had to be cut completely open and they were flying her to a children’s hospital.'
When the surgeon began the routine procedure, he was shocked at what he found. Jimi’s appendix was dead, as was part of her colon and her omentum (stomach lining), and she had severe gangrene in her whole abdomen. Although the surgeon is still not 100% sure what caused this condition, he thinks that perhaps she had a blood clot in her appendix and colon, and that it was a blood disorder that caused her organs to die off. 'The surgeon was panicked, you could see it,' Danyll recalled.
Jimi was flown by helicopter to UCLA Medical Center, and the helicopter pilots broke protocol to allow Danyll to ride with her daughter to Los Angeles. 'They normally don’t let family go in the helicopter, but they didn’t think she would make it to the hospital and wanted one of her parents there when she passed away,' said Danyll.
But Jimi survived the trip, and when they arrived at UCLA, she was put into ICU on a respirator. She was still sedated from her previous surgery at Memorial Hospital, and the surgeons went to work. Jimi was cut from pubic to sternum in addition to the 5-inch incision on her right side where they had originally tried to clean out the appendix. They put a tube down her nose into her stomach, and were finally able to stabilize her, but the doctors didn’t have much hope of her survival. The hospital staff had the Chaplain visit the Hurleys, and she said that she would be praying for Jimi, but she and the doctors felt that the girl probably wouldn’t make it through the night. 'My husband was arguing with her saying ’IJit’s not true,’' said Danyll, 'I was devastated, and it’s strange how you react. You go into survival mode, and disbelieve that your child is that close to dying.'
But despite the dire predictions of the doctors, Jimi survived. Two days after her surgeries, her breathing tube was removed, but the fluid in her lungs made it difficult to breathe. Jimi remained in the ICU for 20 days, during which time she suffered kidney failure, where her kidneys were functioning at only 8%. Jimi’s blood pressure skyrocketed to 190/120 and the doctors were afraid she would have a stroke. Her liver was failing and she got pancreatitis, which made her unable to eat or drink anything for 15 days. Jimi also became very swollen, and when the doctors removed the fluid her lungs collapsed, which the doctors said was the least of her worries at the time.
On top of her many physical ailments, Jimi developed ICU psychosis, where she couldn’t get any good sleep due to noises which interrupted her sleep cycle, and this made her delusional and combative. She didn’t know who her parents were for hours at a time, and she was ripping the tubes out of her body. 'At that time, the doctors told us that they didn’t know if she would overcome everything her body was going through. We would have one good day and two bad days; it was a horrible roller coaster the whole time. It was one thing after another, she would be good then something else would fail,' remembered Danyll.
Danyll says that the outpouring of support from the Hurleys’ friends, family, church, and community are what kept them going during this trying time. Jimi’s father Jim works at Verizon, and his coworkers donated their vacation time so that he could be with his daughter during her illness and recovery. Jim’s brother Ken and his wife Terry drove Jim to UCLA, and Ken stayed with the family the entire month they were there and wouldn’t leave their sides. 'That meant so much to us,' said Danyll.
Jimi’s friends rallied around her from the Kern Valley, as well. Every teacher and student at South Fork Elementary wrote her a letter, which Danyll says really kept Jimi’s spirits up and kept her going through the times she had to fight for her own life the hardest. Danyll remembered that Jimi told her a few times, 'I can’t do it any more; I’m just going to have to die.'
Now, Jimi is back home, and has returned to school and even cheerleading practice. The doctors have cautioned that there may be permanent damage to her kidneys, and are monitoring her regularly, but for all purposes, Jimi is once again back to her normal, healthy self.
Danyll thanks God for Jimi’s health, and says the experience has made her appreciate her family even more. Of Jimi’s miraculous recovery, Danyll says, 'She has a greater purpose; there will be a greater purpose to her being here. This experience has brought our family, church, and community a lot closer. There was a great outpouring of love and support from the whole community.'

Hunting and Halloween and Parties...

Well, last week Jim took Trever on his first big game hunt. They went Boar Hunting, they left at 4am Saturday morning and didn't get home until about 10pm that night. They sat in tree stands and waited and waited and saw no Boar... they saw deer and every other kind of animal, but no Boar. Maybe next time. They are looking to do an overnight hunt on the same private property, I guess the Boar are so bad up there that they are tearing up the property so they are sure to get one sooner or later. But they sure looked cute.

That same Saturday night Alex and Jimi had their first real party to go to. Their friend had a big Halloween party and they both went, they had fun but they said it could have been funner. It seems so weird that they are getting social, but I guess it's about that time.

And that leaves us to HALLOWEEN... I love this holiday. We had trunk or treat at the church. It was a lot of fun, the Buntings made hot dogs and we had chips and cupcakes and candy, candy, candy!!!! We decorated Jim's work tent again with the blow up ghost and spider and black lights and a strobe light. Jim dressed in his camo hunting gear and I dressed like a ROCKER!! It was funny because it was opposite of all the standards we teach the girls in our church, but that's what Halloween's for, a day to dress up in something you'll never be again. Then we came home and hit a few houses on our street and now they are all tucked in and amazingly enough, even with all the sugar in their blood, they are fast asleep!! YEAHHHH!!

Jimi has cheer leading in Big Bear this weekend, then competition in Big Bear next weekend and the weekend after that is the FINAL competition here at home. I will be glad when it's over, I don't feel like I have a spare second to breath lately. That's ok, breathing is really over rated anyways I think.

yes, we're still here

Sorry it's been so long since we've posted to our blog. Not too much going on. We are getting Dr. bills in almost every day, and really they're not too bad yet. I will do a post on that later. Kern Valley Sun wants to do a story on Jimi, the editor was crying just by a few of the details I gave her, I will let you all know when that comes out. She is doing good, maybe overdoing it a bit, but she goes back to the Dr. on Tuesday so that will give us comfort again. She is already caught back up in school, and knows most of the competition cheer for cheer leading. She is an amazing girl. Last night I was listening to channel 17 news and they are doing the Bakersfield House for Hope charity event, where you buy a ticket for $100 and you have a chance to win some great prizes even a $400,000 house (in Bakersfield though). I didn't think much then, but then they said the money raised would be going to build a Pediatric ICU in Memorial Hospital, it touched my heart and I hope it touches yours. The bad news is that today is the last day to buy your tickets, but if you would like to the web sight is http://www.bakersfieldhouseofhope.com/?page_id=4 It is a great cause and could have made things a lot better and easier on our family. Now I know it's a blessing that we ended up at UCLA but to have a closer PICU could help so many.

Alex is doing great in school, he is so girl crazy it is unreal. But he is taking better care of himself. Homework is being turned in and grades are looking good, it's just from day to day who his girlfriend will be.

Sami is her normal sweet self, school is not so great for her, but I think she's been distracted.

And Trever, had a great game in Cal City last Saturday, even ran the ball for 20 yards on one play and some other short runs. (this is big for the rookie team) So this game is a home one this week and he will be the running back. They have been teaching the other kids on the team to block, they put 2 big guys on him and he still breaks through, but they are doing better. He is excited to hear his name over the speaker on Saturday,.

And Jim, well he is all smiles because hunting season opens Saturday and he is going hunting after the games, he already has his licence and just came home with his shells. He took Maggie (his English pointer hunting dog) out the other day and she was holding and flushing quail, so he is really excited. I'm glad he is going, he has a great time, and the stupid dog finally gets used!!

Back to normalceeeee (Not even close!!)

Well, after being home a few weeks I thought we would be more back to normal than we are. Jimi is going to school, but still hasn't completed a full day, she is still really tired. The incision is healing very well but she still has a huge swollen knot in her belly that scares me to DEATH and the Dr. seems to think it is still ok. I think I am going to keep calling until they at least look at it. They seem to think if she isn't in horrible pain and doesn't have a fever that she is fine. HELLO... her organs died and she had no pain and no fever, you think they would know that by now!!!

Trever was so excited on Saturday because he had a home game and I was finally going to be able to go, so this is my weekend...

Friday night, homecoming for the high school so we went to the game. KV was robbed the refs sucked!! Stayed out too late and it was cold.

So Saturday morning at 4 am.....
Sami: Mommy, wake up, I just threw up A LOT!!
Me: was it in the toilet?
Sami: Yes
Me: ok get in bed with us

Saturday morning at 5 am
Trever: Mommy, wake up, I just threw up!!
Me: Trever?
Trever: yeah
Me: did you make it to the toilet?
Trever: yes
Me: ok get in bed with us

Saturday morning 6 am

Jimi: Mom, I just threw up and it hurts really bad
Me: did you make it to the toilet?
Jimi: no I tried I couldn't get there fast enough, my belly hurts

at this point I take her temp and blood pressure which was 140/93 way too high!! and clean up puke, FUN way to start any day, here's to all the moms out there!

Now, we should be getting up getting ready for Trevers football game, and he wakes up

Trever: MOM I'm going to....
I rush over with a trash can, he leans over the bed and pukes... GREAT

So, no game for us!!!

Everyone was fine, Sami and Trever felt better by noon or so, and Jimi kept throwing up until about 3, which was the Dr.s deadline on taking her to the ER. She got a blessing and didn't throw up again. How grateful I am for the Priesthood!!!

Sunday was great! I love watching conference at home in BED!! Lazy day!
